T-Mobile have pulled off a bit of a coup with their new Android based Smartphone – a 3G, HSDPA enabled touchscreen device that can deal with all your emailing, blogging, and other online needs for less than £180 on Pre Pay plans.

Now, take a second to get back in your chair after reading that, and let me remove any semblance of doubt from your mind – The Pulse outperforms its entry-level price. While currently only available through T-Mobile UK, it is available for nothing on many pay-monthly contracts, and features practically all the same functionality as it’s bigger, more expensive siblings.

The phone itself is made by a company called Huawei, and I don’t blame you if you’ve never heard of them before, but they are a well known name in the telecommunication industry – This is their first attempt to branch out with phone handsets.

And a good start it is too. The capacitative screen is agile and responsive, and while it lacks multi-touch features it is still beautifully easy to use, the menu system simple and intuitive after just a few minutes. The onscreen keyboard is forgiving, offering predictive text input for those of us who might be a little clumsy-thumbed, and automatically aligns itself based on which way you hold the phone.

The camera, however, lets this unit down somewhat. There’s no flash, and pictures frequently look washed out and vague, even in good light conditions.- which is a shame as the huge 3.5 inch screen would be perfect for viewing photos on, vibrant and bright as it is – However, people likely to be bothered by this usually have a higher quality dedicated camera anyway, and for the price and other functionality of this phone, this can easily be overlooked.

T-mobile have seemingly done a very good job of making Android affordable for the entry-level user, and despite a slightly wonky camera, this phone should definitely be a consideration if you’re on the lookout for a new Android mobile.
