artlebedevoptimuspopularis-conceptlg.jpg

Art Lebedev Studio’s founder revealed an early 3D prototype of his Optimus Popularis keyboard that sheds new light on the device. Despite saying that the keyboard won’t use the OLED displays of the Maximus, Lebedev’s rendering confirms that the keyboard will still have at least some keys whose symbols will change based on the relevant app. The design is already known to be smaller than the Maximus and support both Mac OS X and Windows systems.

Launch information is still distant for the Popularis outside of its intended sub-$1,000 price tag, though the apparently more limited feature set could push the keyboard below the $462 price of the Russian company’s current keyboard.

Epson Stylus Photo R2880

Epson USA has unveiled the Stylus Photo R2880, 13-inch carriage desktop inkjet printer that is the latest model from Epson to add Vivid Magenta to its set of Ultrachrome K3 ink colours. The R2880 features an Advanced MicroPiezo AMC print head fed by eight pigment ink colour lines (which means it’s necessary to swap Matte Black and Photo Black inks when switching between certain paper types) and a resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi.

Direct CD/DVD printing is possible, and two computers can be connected via the printer’s twin USB 2.0 ports (it lacks an Ethernet port). The Stylus Photo R2880 is to ship in June 2008 for an estimated street price of US$799.99 in the U.S. It replaces the Stylus Photo R2400 in Epson’s lineup.

The drive offers twice the capacity of the Korean firm’s previous 128GB SSD but is also much faster. The 256GB edition reads sequential data at 200MB per second, twice the rate of the original model, while also seeing an even greater increase in write speeds: where the earlier drive writes at 70MB per second, the new SSD writes at 160MB per second. This comes in a chassis that is also described as one of Samsung’s thinnest at 9.5mm (0.37in), making it suitable for very thin and light notebooks.
