Sony’s next-generation Blu-ray Disc player, model BDP-S350, is now available across the country at Sony Style retail outlets, sonystyle.com and other authorized Sony retailers.Our new Blu-Ray player features 7.1 Channel Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus decoding and bit-stream output, as well as DTS HD high resolution Audio and Master Audio bit-stream output.
The BDP-S350 supports AVCHD discs encoded with x.v.Color™ (xvYCC) technology, an international standard for wide color space reproduction. The standard expands the current data range of video by about 1.8 times, allowing the players to output more natural and vivid colors similar to what the human eye actually sees in the natural world. The players also feature compatibility with an array of video formats, including BD-R/RE (BDMV and BDAV modes), DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW, CD, CD-R/RW (CD-DA format), and JPEG on DVD/CD recordable media.

The new BDP-S350 is now available for about $400 at Sony Style stores, online at sonystyle.com, at military base exchanges, and at authorized retailers nationwide.

Samsung Unveils Three New Displays at the SID 2008

Samsung Electronics released three new TV displays at the SID 2008.Samsung will unveil the industry’s first 82-inch LCD TV panel with ultra-definition (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) resolution at a 120Hz refresh rate. It displays ultra-definition (UD) resolution at 120 frames per second, minimizing the blurring that is experienced at 60Hz. A red/green/blue LED backlight has been added to raise true color saturation to 150 percent, based on the NISC standard of 100 percent.

“This 82-inch LCD is large enough to cover all viewing angles with ultra-definition resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate that will allow viewers to watch motion pictures as if they are really in them,” said Sang Soo Kim, executive vice president of the LCD Technology Center at Samsung Electronics. “It is the optimal display for future TVs.”

Sports Ball-Shaped LCD Monitors

Hannspree has dropped some 19-inch LCD monitors called the XM-Ball Series in Korea. They feature a soccer ball, basketball and baseball-shaped frames made from real leather. All three have support for 1280 x 1024 resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 3ms response speed and HDMI port. No word on pricing or availability just yet

Marantz announced its BD8002 Blu-Ray player

Marantz announced its BD8002 Blu-Ray player, presented at the last CES in Las Vegas, will be released in Japan in June!Our player utilizes a Silicon Optix Realta 10-bit chipset, and is Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio compatible.
