The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model is a two-seater concept car. Incidentally GINA stands for Geometry and Functions in ‘N’ Adaptations. The car is built on the Z8 Roadster platform with its 5.0-liter V8. It consists of a flexible ’skin’ stretched over a metal wire structure enforced with carbon fiber. This gives the owner the flexibility to change the shape of the car as they please; to elucidate: the rear spoiler can be raised, while the rocker panels can effectively be bodykitted out. There is flexibility in the inside as well, the steering wheel and instrumentation sit within the centre console and slide into position when the driver pushes the start button. Apparently the car has been influenced by the infamous ‘flame-surfaced’ styling of BMW’s current lineup.
Yet the Light Visionary Model is not made of metal but of cloth. The virtually seamless stretch fabric is secured on a meshwork of metal wires that shields the movable substructure beneath.

Now, BMW, place the driver in front of the passenger, put two wheels out front, one drive-wheel out back, install an ultra-efficient turbo bio-diesel electric hybrid power plant with battery and plug in capability, and kick GM’s ass with a real contender commuter car, and give the average American road racer wanna - be a real thrill on his/her daily commute! Make the thing damn fast, super light, super economical, very sports oriented,
and colored brightly. Put the passengers in a safety capsule with four point seatbelts, make it aerodynamic, sleek, and sexy. Sell millions, restore your companies place in world markets, beat VW to the punch, antiquate the new 620 hp ‘Vette, show Mustang what sports driving is all about, and do it at a running cost (mpg) that justifies the price!
Shut up Uncle B.
it looks like a pair of nylons. I’m not in love with it at all. It looks like it would deform or flap around at speed. It also reminds me of the “Adobe Car” commercial on Saturday Night Live where the car was made from adobe and if it was dented you could just slap some more mud on it to smooth it out.
Uncle B makes a good point though. Without the weight of a “body”, that car could be very light, very fast and very fuel efficient.
It just came to me. Things that are designed for men are usually not tied to fasion. Mens things, suites, shoes, ties, shirts, all stay pretty much the same down thru the years. Most men like this. Designers in NYC and Paris or Milan make lines for men, but by and large they are ignored. This seems to be the case here Chris Bangel has repeatedly tried to make a design house fasion statement with BMW. I don’t know why they allow him to do this but here he is again.
thery nice car….. wonna it!!!!!
Is it me or does the hood look like a vaGINA?
I didn’t really like the extirior.
But the interior was not that bad
I have better ideas of concept cars than that and i am 14 years old.
I wish they could hire me.
They can make alot of money from me
YES!!! that’s what i thought!
the name kinda gives it away too.

How would it handle in a 60 mph crash?
I love that car if you call this is a car I”m in love
THIS IS THE BEST CAR EVER IN THE WORLD I WONT ONE SO BAD!!
Sick………..btw it’s a car
Funny how this blog doesn’t mention any of the real high points of this car. I watched a 15 minute thing on TV about this car and it was incredibly sweet. For one thing, all the commands, like lights, wipers, etc. are all voice activated. When you tell the car to turn the lights on they actually open like eyes. When they go off they close up completely and look like they’re not even there. The hood is a little bit suggestive but it seamlessly disappears also. The fabric that they use is an industrial plastic tightly woven slightly metallic fabric that is UV proof and incredibly abrasion resistant and can stretch beyond the limits of normal fabrics. There is no paint to scratch and I imagine that you could not cut it with a knife. This is an incredible piece of work that’s I’d drive around any day.
Nice car…….
You have to love it for what it is though. It’s an amazing looking car that questions our concept of what a car is. Obviously the materials and structure probably doesn’t meet up to government standards for any country, but that’s why we have engineers and researchers to develop better technology.
This is the most wonderful car that i have ever seen in my life……
& I thanks to the designer of this car GINA.
u rock man……..
u r only the designer that can change the world.
like it…….
